The color of the light is determined by the wavelength of the light. Lights are used in a wide range from 380 nm to 840 nm in plant cultivation. This range extends from ultraviolet lights to dark red lights. So, what color light is good for plant cultivation?
Ultraviolet lights, which correspond to the range of 380 nm – 390 nm, guide the flowering of plants.
Violet blue lights, which correspond to the 400 nm – 410 nm range, support the green leaf development of the plant.
Blue light, which corresponds to the 440 nm – 460 nm range, supports root growth and green leaf growth.
The yellow light, which corresponds to the 585 nm – 595 nm range, improves the taste by increasing the nutrient content and trace elements.
Orange light, which corresponds to the 600 nm – 610 nm range, increases root and leaf quality and improves the taste of the fruit.
Red light, which corresponds to the range of 660 nm – 670 nm, supports the photosynthesis and photoperiod of the plant.
The dark red light, which corresponds to the 730 nm – 840 nm range, increases the growth and flowering performance of the plant, thus increasing the yield.
As seen above, plant breeders use lights in many different colors to change the growth rate of the plant, the taste, color and many other features of the fruit and leaf.
